The Otway Edit

Local Action

Why It Matters

Some things are too important to just write about.

The Otway Edit is a publication, but we’re also part of the community we write about.

Sometimes that means telling a story. Sometimes it means starting a conversation. And sometimes it means getting involved.

We use our platform to support local campaigns, raise awareness and help turn difficult conversations into action — particularly around domestic and family violence.

Campaign

Walk for Respect

TOE works alongside the local community on Walk for Respect, bringing people together to take a stand against domestic and family violence.

It’s about creating a community where respect is expected, harmful behaviour is recognised and speaking up is encouraged.

Because prevention doesn’t start at the crisis point. It starts much earlier — with education, awareness, conversations and knowing what the warning signs can look like.

Project

Speak Up. See the Signs.

Our Speak Up, See the Signs project brings local voices into the conversation around domestic and family violence.

Through photography, storytelling and social campaigns, we’re talking about the behaviours that can be easy to overlook — coercion, control, manipulation, intimidation and the everyday red flags that can exist long before physical violence.

Because not every red flag looks like violence.

Sometimes it looks like control.
Sometimes it looks like isolation.
Sometimes it looks like fear.

And sometimes, it has become so normalised that people don’t recognise it for what it is.

Why We Show Up

We’re a local publication with a platform.

We’re not a support service, and we don’t pretend to replace the organisations doing specialist work in this space.

We can use that platform to amplify important conversations, give people a voice, challenge harmful attitudes and help information reach the people who need it.

And we believe that matters.

Because we’re not just documenting the community we want to live in.

We’re helping build it.
